Streamlined Pre-Employment Medical Clearance
This presentation will provide details on how we implemented a new streamlined process for new hire medical evaluations across a large healthcare organization.  At HCA Healthcare, timely starts for new hires is critical in supporting our workforce in delivering quality patient care.  The need to decrease start delays for new hires became evident with the emerging workforce trends and the ability to bring in qualified candidates amidst the labor shortages across the country. The Workforce Health and Safety team at HCA Healthcare provided clinical guidance on testing and workflows for Employee Health to follow across the organization.  This discussion will offer an overview of how we developed a standard medical clearance protocol, how we removed unnecessary components and set up methods to measure improvements. And finally, how we scaled the new process across the enterprise that hosts over 500 employee health clinicians across 20 states.

World class employers are recognized for the proactive and creative ways they are able to attract and retain employees, while also balancing the fiscal responsibility of such endeavors. An onsite clinic not only services and acknowledges a commitment to the most important resource – employees, but also establishes a means for cost reduction with the most expensive benefit – healthcare.  Key insights and learnings will be shared regarding the introduction of an onsite clinic, progression of care/services, and impacts related to employee well-being and engagement, while also touching on the clinic’s critical role during the pandemic and Hurricane Helene recovery.

Enhancing Efficiency and Collaboration through Reduced Administrative Burden
Reducing the administrative burden on external departments can significantly enhance efficiency and collaboration within an organization. By partnering with stakeholders, occupational health services (OHS) can help organizations adapt to evolving health needs. Emphasizing wellness and fostering teamwork between OHS and various departments can build sustainable programs that enhance communication, reduce administrative burdens, and improve regulatory compliance. Conducting virtual Post Offer Physical Assessments, scripting responses and communications, and establishing workflows prepare employees and improve onboarding times. This approach can also be used to streamline workflows during times of infectious exposure notification and bloodborne pathogen exposures.

Ensuring program monitoring compliance involves verifying that all aspects of a program adhere to established standards and regulations. This process includes regular assessments, audits, and reviews to ensure the program operates as intended and meets its goals. Effective program monitoring compliance can help identify areas for improvement, ensure accountability, and maintain the program’s integrity.
