Pandemic Preparedness and Response: Lessons Learned from 2020 and a Higher-Reliability Future”
While words like “unprecedented” have been used to describe the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, neither the potential for a large-scale airborne pathogen nor the needs for a deployment of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNE) response operations actually are. Instead, both the Healthcare community and the public are often impacted by new, hazardous materials, both naturally occurring and man made. Likewise, known, proven CBRNE / Hazardous Materials response methodologies, applicable Healthcare Occupational Safety and Health, Infection Prevention, and the lessons learned from the turbulent and flawed 2020 COVID-19 response and the 2014 Ebola response provide a more-reliable foundation for any future threat response. By honing in on the core capabilities of Risk Analysis, Protecting the Responders, Protecting the Public, Determination of Impacts, and Recovery, response-specific variables and the scale of the incident can be interchanged for a more effective, efficient, and objective response. By increasing response capabilities and removing subjective opinions and political angles, response reliability can be increased for a higher-reliability future.

The Impact of Obesity on Productivity in the U.S.
Obesity in the U.S. significantly affects workplace productivity, driving up absenteeism, presenteeism, healthcare costs, and safety risks. Employees with obesity are more likely to suffer from chronic health issues, leading to missed work and decreased performance. Moreover, obesity-related stigma and mental health challenges can negatively impact employee morale and engagement. To address these issues, employers can introduce wellness programs that promote physical activity, healthy eating, and mental health support, while fostering an inclusive and supportive work culture. Additionally, offering health insurance incentives that cover the latest, most effective obesity treatments can help employees better manage their weight, ultimately reducing the negative impact of obesity on both health and productivity.
