About the Conference

In an effort to achieve value-based care, the nation is seeing a rapidly growing shift from inpatient care to outpatient care. As a result, experts are noting a tremendous resurgence of Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs), and are forecasting significant growth. The industry is seeing an expansion into more specialty and sub-specialty procedures, enhanced patient care and the implementation of ancillary services. ASC’s are also growing in popularity due to greater convenience for the patient, lower complication and infection rates, as well as reduced healthcare costs and increased revenues. This conference brings together ASC’s, hospitals, health systems, payors and industry leaders to share best practices in shifting from inpatient to outpatient care, maximizing efficiencies, improving quality care, and expanding patient care services. Key topics of discussion will include total joints and bundled payments, infection prevention and control, creating relationships and partnerships, utilizing technology to improve care and access, navigating reimbursement, and operational best practices.

Navigating Reimbursement Strategies
The current landscape of reimbursements, profits and revenues in the ASC setting has changed dramatically in the past few years.  Pandemic or no pandemic, patients are expected to pay more and payers continue to pay less. This reality pushes administrators to think outside the box in order to continue to be profitable. This presentation will demonstrate proven success by sharing several strategies and a deeper dive to discover these opportunities to increase reimbursements and revenue. Attendees can look forward to learning how Ambulatory Surgery Centers continue to not only give best in class care for patients, but also be profitable in tandem.

Value-Based Healthcare coming to Ambulatory Surgery Centers Now!  Don’t Be Left Behind
One of the main issues that is being accelerated due to Covid-19 is Value Based Health in the surgery center.  This starts with traditional fee-for service being force by the insurance companies to go to the more cost-efficient site of service out of the hospital as well as bundled rates with larger employers and self-funded companies and unions.  This is something we initially always thought would be implemented somewhere around 2025-30 but is now being put in place this year and next year.

Strategies to Grow Your ASC
There is an expected continuance of volume growth in ASCs as better-performing ASCs sophisticatedly transforming their procedural mix with the creation of Total Joint Replacement (TJR), Cardiac and Spine Centers of Excellence. This session will provide a road map for assessing the feasibility of expanding your surgical mix and the steps required to ensure success. Participants will learn how to assess the feasibility of expanding Total Joint Replacement (TJR), Cardiac, and Spine procedures, expected reimbursement in an ASC setting, how to establish a sustainable market channel to capture procedures historically performed in a hospital setting as well as what clinical and capital resources are required.

Are Bundled Payment Strategies a Fit for Your Surgical Center?
ASC’s play an important role in the value-based care environment. Those that are poised with the ability to provide a bunded payment strategy can leverage this as a financial opportunity. Bundled payments can be used with commercial payer negotiations, to contract directly with self-funded employers, as well as to attract cash paying healthcare consumers.  This session will define the bundle payment strategy and provide valuable information on the methodology as well as steps for effective implementation.

It’s a Marathon, not a Sprint: Leading when We’re All Exhausted

Keeping an engaged workforce is challenging even in times of great stability. Over the past two years, healthcare has been anything but stable as new challenges and environmental changes have taxed every part of our professional lives. In truth, the industry is exhausted. In this session, leaders will learn how to refresh and revitalize their own sense of purpose and inner energy in order to help their teams to do the same. They will learn that while humans have infinite ability to adapt, we each have only a finite capacity for specific changes at any given moment. Leaders will walk away with renewed energy to continue the important work that they and their teams perform every day.

Elevate the Patient Experience
According to new research, the patient experience is one of the top three priorities of ASC leaders over the next three years.* It is clearly time to refocus on the person at the center of care. Many organizations are struggling to understand what patient-centered care truly means, and what it really looks like. Everyone has a role in the patient journey: from the arrivals parking attendant, to the CEO and clinical staff, including environmental services and the check-out receptionist. Successful hospitals provide an exceptional patient experience. Organizations with a culture that focuses on patients are rewarded with higher clinical quality and efficiency, a safer patient environment, greater employee engagement, and improved financial results. By putting the emphasis on a patient’s care experience — including respect, partnership, shared decision making, well-coordinated transitions, and efficiency — ASC’s see improvements in their patient satisfaction survey data.
